Personal Real Estate Corporations
We want REALTORS® to have the right to incorporate. Currently, real estate professionals are not allowed to form Personal Real Estate Corporations due to a technicality in the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002. Yet, other regulated professions in Ontario, including accountants, lawyers, health professionals, social workers, mortgage brokers, insurance agents, architects and engineers, can all form personal corporations.
In 2018, OREA fought hard for tax fairness for REALTORS®. We lobbied to get legislation to permit personal real estate corporations past second reading and into committee. We’re close. Stay tuned for more updates on this in 2019.
